Cardiovascular epidemiology

The Cardiovascular Epidemiology theme focuses on understanding the determinants and distribution of cardiovascular disease and guiding primary and secondary prevention.

Using large datasets and advanced statistical modelling approaches, our research aims to identify lifestyle, clinical, and biological drivers of cardiovascular risk and translate these findings into evidence-based prevention and precision medicine strategies.

By harnessing large-scale data and randomised clinical trials, we aim to identify the determinants of disease and translate them into strategies for primary prevention and precision medicine.

Research

Our research focuses on the primary and secondary prevention of cardiovascular disease across diverse populations. Using large-scale cohort studies, clinical registries, as well as advanced evidence synthesis and epidemiological methods, we investigate how lifestyle, behavioural, and cardiometabolic factors influence cardiovascular risk and outcomes in conditions such as atrial fibrillation, heart failure, ischaemic heart disease and stroke.

A key focus explores digital health and lifestyle intervention for people living with long term conditions. Some of our more emerging research includes stroke–heart syndrome and cardiovascular health of people with neurological conditions such as multiple sclerosis.

Our work develops and evaluates approaches for predicting cardiovascular disease and its complications by integrating clinical, imaging, and population health data to support prevention and precision medicine.
