Postgraduate study with RISES
We offer a rewarding learning programme in a supportive environment.
The Research Institute for Sport and Exercise Sciences (RISES) works in conjunction with the School of Sport and Exercise Sciences. We provide a research training environment with multiple opportunities for research students and staff to develop their contextual academic, theoretical, technical and research methods skills.
Alongside a host of research training opportunities, RISES also supports a number of important national and international conferences.
Postgraduate study
RISES currently supports over 100 postgraduate research students and these students can have access to specific statistics and research methods as well as being able to access taught modules run within our MSc postgraduate frameworks.
Supervisory teams, research groups and exchanges will provide other important support for postgraduate research students including:
- journal clubs,
- local seminars and presentations,
- technical training,
- ethics support.
This complements the research support provided to postgraduate research students by the Graduate School.
Please visit the University's Research Support Office for further information about postgraduate study and application procedures. You can also get in touch with us via our online form.
RISES seminar series
As a vibrant and multidisciplinary research community, RISES provides the opportunity to engage with state-of-the-art research presentations through its seminar programme. This seminar series is open to all staff and a compulsory component of the research training for postgraduate research students.
Postgraduate students are encouraged to deliver their own seminars, giving them the opportunity to update on their developing research and prepare for their final-year viva examinations (MPhil or PhD).
CPD and training opportunities
RISES also provides a broad array of CPD and training opportunities to both internal and external staff.
This is partly to support ongoing enterprise activities, to further personal training and development as well as showcasing the work and technical skills that underpin research activity within RISES.
Conferences
An important aspect of the work of RISES staff is the support and staging of national and international conferences.
These conferences have significant scientific training benefit to the RISES environment as well as having broader (social and economic) impact, allowing our PGRs to broadcast their research and network with leading discipline researchers.
