About the Gender, Violence and the Criminal Justice System Research Group

Based within the Centre for the Study of Crime, Criminalisation and Social Exclusion, researchers from the Gender, Violence and the Criminal Justice System Research Group ask fundamental questions about how gender is conceptualised within and across disciplinary and institutional boundaries. Research undertaken by members of this strand seeks to make sense of, and critique, punitive state responses to women’s criminality and deviance, and the equally complacent responses to their victimisation. The state’s role in enabling and reproducing gendered violence and injustice is at the centre of our work in order to make theoretical, policy and activist interventions.
