Employers are responsible for posting their Degree Apprenticeship opportunities and ultimately deciding who they want for the position. You can advertise apprenticeship opportunities via the Apprenticeship Service System. Further information on how to employ an apprentice can be found on the government website.

Research and innovation are at the heart of LJMU’s courses so you can be sure that our students receive up-to-date skills and knowledge relevant to your sector. Plus you’ll be able to inform the curriculum of the course by working with LJMU in the design and delivery of the programme.

Degree Apprenticeships are open to anyone over the age of 16 so while they are primarily attractive to school leavers as new recruits to your business they are equally open to those existing staff members in your company that you’re looking to upskill.

LJMU has a dedicated team who will take care of the administration and management of the apprenticeship. We can help you through the whole process from recruitment to graduation and beyond.

Apprentices will spend 80% of their time in your workplace and 20% of their time at LJMU (usually one day per week).

LJMU has a proven track record in successfully developing and delivering Degree Apprenticeships to meet industry needs. Since 2016, the University has welcomed 160 Degree Apprentices from over 100 employers (both levy-paying and non-levy paying) across a broad range of sectors. This experience puts LJMU in an excellent position to help employers that are keen to get onboard with the scheme.

Apprentices will complete their degree within four to five years. For most non-integrated apprenticeships the apprentice has up to two years beyond graduation to complete their end-point assessment.

An Apprenticeship Commitment Statement is a contract between the apprentice and the employer which sets out the obligations of all parties involved in the apprenticeship.

Yes, they will receive a wage, holiday pay, pension and any other benefits that your employees receive. The Degree Apprenticeship funding you receive from the government cannot be used to pay wages or any other benefits, it can only be used towards training costs. Apprentices must be an employee on the first day of their apprenticeship and as a minimum at least be paid a wage consistent with the law for the time they are in work and in off-the-job training.

All Degree Apprentices need to meet our entry requirements and high standards just like any other student who chooses to study with us. We also work with local schools on outreach programmes and we can help source suitable candidates at our Open Day events. All of which can help you find the best person for your opportunity. You will then interview suitable candidates to ensure you find someone who will be able to add value to your organisation.
