Evacuation procedures
Library services observes the following policy and procedures to keep you safe in the event of an emergency.
What to do if you hear a fire alarm
- Evacuate the building immediately using the nearest safe exit.
- Do not delay evacuation in order to collect belongings.
- Do not use the lift to evacuate.
- Proceed to the designated assembly point.
- Remain at the assembly point until instructed by either LJMU staff or the Fire Service that it is safe to re-enter the building.
Assisted evacuation
If you cannot exit the building without assistance, please make your way to the nearest designated refuge area where you will be assisted in evacuation, if this is necessary. You may not be evacuated in the case of a false alarm.
If you have any concerns about your safety, use the intercom system where provided or ring 0151 231 2222.
Evacuation at Aldham Robarts Library
Designated assembly point: Maryland Street.
Assisted evacuation at Aldham Robarts Library
- Lower ground floor - North Stairs or South Stairs.
- Ground floor – all exits.
- First floor – North Stairs or South Stairs or emergency fire escape East Stairs.
- Second floor - North Stairs or South Stairs or emergency fire escape East Stairs.
Evacuation at Avril Robarts Library
Designated assembly point: the square at the end of Smithfield Street.
Assisted evacuation at Avril Robarts Library
- Ground floor – clear exit.
- First floor – emergency fire escape stairs (North Stairs or South Stairs).
- Second floor - emergency fire escape stairs (North Stairs or South Stairs).
- Third floor - emergency fire escape stairs (North Stairs or South Stairs).
