Our teaching is research-led, connecting you with current debates and real global challenges, while empowering you to develop critical thinking, ethical awareness and the confidence to make a meaningful difference.
Community is central to the way we learn. Our student-led Politics Society hosts debates, guest talks and social events, and our courses include regular study visits and field trips. Recent destinations have included the Scottish Parliament, People’s History Museum (Manchester), Hack Green Nuclear Bunker, and Derry, Northern Ireland, alongside opportunities such as Model United Nations, visits to Edinburgh University, film screenings, and guest lectures from leading researchers and practitioners.
You will receive dedicated academic support throughout your degree, including one-to-one guidance from your personal tutor and additional study skills support to build confidence in research, writing and independent learning. Teaching combines lectures, workshops and discussion-based seminars, delivered by academic staff, expert practitioners and guest speakers to bring global politics to life beyond the textbook.
Our assessments recognise that students learn in different ways, using a mix of essays, presentations and research projects to help you develop key skills in analysis, communication and critical enquiry.
Across the University, you will also have access to extensive support services, including wellbeing and mental health support, money and accommodation advice, disability support, specialist academic support, and tailored guidance for international students.
