Grow your future: As an LJMU graduate you have lifetime access to careers, employability and enterprise support

Careers and start-up support for our Alumni

Grow your future with the Student Futures Team

Once you graduate from LJMU you are still able to access careers and employability support at any time, for life, and start-up support for up to five years after graduation. This includes speaking to a Careers and Employability Adviser about career options and opportunities, getting your application forms or CV checked, getting support to start a business, grow a business or become a freelancer, accessing our suite of digital tools and job board, or attending any of our events, including workshops, webinars, fairs or employer events. Whatever your situation, LJMU is here to help you grow your future.

1:1 support via a careers meeting

Gain clarity on your career next steps with 1:1 advice and guidance from our team of experienced and qualified careers professionals. Our advisers can help you decide which direction to take next, what options are available to you (that could be further study, getting a graduate-level job, starting your own business/freelancing, or something else entirely), and where to find suitable opportunities. They can also help with practical advice about application forms, CVs and covering letters, and help you prepare for job assessments, interviews and much more. Meetings are available both in-person at a Careers Zone or virtually via Teams.

Start-Up Support for LJMU Alumni

As LJMU alumni, you can access support from the LJMU Start-up Hub for five years after completing your studies. We mostly support graduates setting up locally in the Liverpool City Region (LCR) but we’d love to hear from you wherever you intend to start a business, and if we can’t help, we can refer you elsewhere.

Visit the Start-up Hub website for more information about how we can help and support you with starting up a business or freelancing.

Webinars, start-up sessions, employer events and virtual recruitment fairs

We run a regular programme of careers and employability webinars designed to help you to maximize your skills and help you negotiate your next steps. Topics include: crafting a CV with impact, telephone and video interviews, constructing a standout application, maximising LinkedIn for your career, and more. Alongside this we regularly invite employers and recruiters to speak to students via our ‘Be Inspired’ and ‘Virtual Careers Zone: Meet the Employer’ online sessions. We also be host regular (virtual) recruitment fairs during the academic year where you can speak to a host of recruiters across a range of sectors about their graduate opportunities. You can also attend Digital Incubation Hub events, including Google Digital Garage and Natwest Business Builder events, or attend one of our regular Start-Up Schools.

Graduate Outcomes

Graduate Outcomes is a national survey which gathers information about the activities and viewpoints of graduates 15 months after they’ve finished their studies.

As an LJMU graduate, your response to this survey is very important as it will:

  • provide future students with insight into their potential career destinations
  • enable our Careers Team to offer tailored careers advice which you can continue to access for life as a LJMU graduate
  • provide higher education institutions, policy makers, researchers and others with data, to understand current trends within the graduate jobs market
  • contribute to the University’s positioning in league tables

All graduates will be asked to complete the Graduate Outcomes survey.

Graduate Outcomes has replaced the previous Destinations of Leavers from Higher Education survey (DLHE).
