LJMU and Renshaw developed a bespoke management development programme.
Project
LJMU developed a bespoke management development programme for Renshaw. The programme was developed as a result of a Training Needs Analysis, which was carried out as part of the Skill Investor programme - a Learning and Skills Council co-financing initiative that is part funded by the European Social Fund.
The Training Needs Analysis identified a range of training and development required by the organisation, including training for Renshaw’s senior management, management group and line manager teams.
Training
After the Training Needs Analysis, a launch event was held. The event established the aspirations of staff members who would receive training. Module champions were then nominated from within the organisation. The champions would be responsible for providing course content information and for implementing training in the workplace.
The areas identified as key for development were as follows:
- Project management
- Team working
- Leadership
- Lean manufacturing
- Influencing and communication
- Human resources
- Problem solving
Client benefits
- The client reported that the launch event alone increased team spirit
- The structure of the management development programme will enable Renshaw to embed training within the organisation
- Based on the management-level training, Renshaw is now in discussions with LJMU regarding board-level training requirements
Academic and student benefits
- The cross-faculty nature of this project highlighted the benefits of working in partnership with other teams to deliver training that covers a range of disciplines
- Through the delivery of training, the academics involved increased their industrial experience, which can be transferred back into their teaching
