Dr. Yusuke Nishimura is a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Muscle Proteomics within the Cellular & Molecular Physiology of Lifelong Health (CaMP-LH) research group at Liverpool John Moores University. His research focuses on the molecular and cellular mechanisms regulating skeletal muscle protein turnover and mass in both health and disease, with key contributions in the areas of skeletal muscle aging and facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy (FSHD) through proteomics-based approaches. In recognition of his work, Dr. Nishimura received the Vice Chancellor’s Award for Excellence – Rising Star (Faculty of Science Winner) at Liverpool John Moores University in December 2023.
Dr. Nishimura serves on the Editorial Board of the American Journal of Physiology – Cell Physiology (AJP-Cell) and recently co-guest edited a special issue on Mechanisms Underlying Diversity in Cancer Cachexia for the journal. He regularly reviews manuscripts for a range of journals, including FASEB Journal, Journal of Cachexia, Sarcopenia and Muscle, American Journal of Physiology – Endocrinology and Metabolism, Journal of Nutrition, Experimental Gerontology, Clinical Nutrition, Clinical Nutrition ESPEN, European Journal of Nutrition, Nutrition & Metabolism, and Biochimie. Additionally, he reviews research grants for AFM-TELETHON and is a member of the UKRI BBSRC Pool of Experts.
In addition to his academic work, Dr. Nishimura actively engages with the wider community as a member of the Research Communications Group at Muscular Dystrophy UK, where he translates scientific discoveries into accessible insights for those affected by muscular dystrophy. He is also a member of the Research Strategy Group of the recently established charity FSHD UK, contributing to the charity’s strategic research direction.
