Wendy Johnston is a Senior Lecturer in Food Studies. Passionate about bringing teaching and learning to life to maximise the student experience, Wendy is committed to implementing innovative, active learning techniques, creating authentic learning environments and developing external partnerships and collaborations.
Wendy was recognised as a National Teaching Fellow in 2015 and is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
In 2012 Wendy was awarded the LJMU Individual Excellence Award for making an outstanding impact on the student learning experience through her work developing collaborative partnerships. In 2014 Wendy was further recognised by LJMU and awarded ‘The Vice Chancellors Award for Excellence in Teaching Innovation’ for making an outstanding contribution to teaching and learning. In 2022 Wendy was awarded a Faculty of Science Teaching Award.
Wendy is a member of the International Federation of National Teaching Fellows(IFNTF), a member of the Staff and Educational Development Association (SEDA) and a member of the Active Learning Network, which is a collaborative platform showcasing active learning projects and research, nationally and internationally. Wendy has completed Aurora which is Advance HE's leadership development initiative for women.
Wendy has diverse research interests which include the use of active learning technologies to enhance teaching and learning, the sustainability of the food chain and the use of future technology including the Internet of Things (IoT) to improve food and nutrition.
