I am a full time Fire Fighter working at Speke Fire Station for Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service. I completed a Sports Science Degree at LJMU in 2011 and have since worked for different community projects in the health deprived areas of inner city Liverpool.
During my time working at the Fire Fit Hub, which is a charity run youth centre in Toxteth I worked with LJMU and the Physical Activity Exchange (Dr Paula Watson) to design health interventions that increased long term motivation for physical activity in children.
Since becoming a Fire Fighter I have begun a part time MPhil research project exploring the motivational antecedents and barriers of operational Fire Fighters volunteering for physical activity and health projects outside of their core hours. I have since transferred from MPhil to a PhD exploring the phenomenology of altruistic motivation using firefighters as a lens to understand the global phenomenon of altruism.
