Vascular ultrasound imaging course

This summer school is aimed at students, researchers and academics wishing to develop ultrasound skills. The knowledge and practical skills gained on this intensive course will initiate the use of ultrasound applications in Sport and Exercise Science research studies.

Cardiac Pre-Participation Screening of Athletes - A Practical Focused Course
Coming in summer 2024
This is a ‘hands-on’ practical course aimed at developing the skills for undertaking cardiac pre-participation screening of an athlete. The sessions will provide theory and practice related to the causes of sudden death in an athlete and how to differentiate an athlete’s heart from inherited cardiac disease.

Programme outline for cardiac athlete screening
- Aetiology of sudden cardiac death in athletes
- Normal athletic adaptation
- The role of the 12-lead ecg, questionnaire and echocardiogram
- Hands on practical sessions including Heartworks simulator
