In the School of Sport and Exercise Sciences, we are committed to promoting and embedding a culture of equity, diversity, inclusion and respect in its broadest sense. This involves creating and nurturing a supportive, diverse, and equitable working environment for all our staff and students. Ultimately, we strive to create equity of opportunity for all, enabling colleagues and students alike to realise and fulfil their potential.

About the RIDE Panel

I am incredibly proud to lead the school’s aspirational strategy to embed the principles of equity, diversity, inclusion and respect into every aspect of who we are, how we operate and what we stand for. It’s a privilege to work with such a talented group of individuals who are not afraid to challenge the status quo and establish new norms.

Our initiatives include:

  • The development of an EDI curriculum enhancement theme that between 2021-2024 has resulted in the development and implementation of learning outcomes related to EDI in all our undergraduate and postgraduate taught programmes.
  • Hosting the Women in Sport & Exercise Academic Network (WiSEAN) conference in 2023 which showcased innovative and inspirational work in the field of women and girls in sport and physical activity.
  • The co-creation and launch of our school mission, vision and values, a process which involved every member of our school. These seek to guide decisions and behaviours of all colleagues and students in the school to ensure a more inclusive environment and culture.
  • Continued celebration of diversity and inclusion.
