CPD Collaborative and Professional Practice in Dementia Care
Level 7 (postgraduate), 30 Credits
Course aim
This module will enable you to:
- gain a deeper understanding of dementia
- think creatively and identify innovations in care delivery and how these can be adapted
- apply this knowledge to service planning and delivery within your own organisation
Course content
As part of this CPD course, you will study:
- therapeutic approaches and models of dementia care
- assessment, interventions and different stages of the disease trajectory
- palliative and end of life care needs
- family caregivers and informal carers needs and experiences
- evaluation in dementia care
Teaching and learning
You will be expected to attend one half day per week.

Undergraduate degree
BA/BSc (Hons) in relevant field at 2:2 or above, or evidence of potential to study at Masters Level

You will be expected to have access to or be able to engage with VLE through online access - therefore computer/laptop and tablet/smartphone access would be helpful for this module.

Assessment
There are two components to the assessment:
- a short presentation (worth 30% of your final mark) on what you consider to be a research or evaluation priority in dementia care
- an essay (worth 70% of your final mark) where you critically examine the current service provision for people with dementia within your own work context
