CPD Acute and Chronic Neurosciences Care and Management
Level 7 (postgraduate), 30 Credits
Course aim
This programme will allow you to further develop skills and knowledge in the care and management of the neurological patient.
Course content
The following topics will be addressed during the programme:
- Introduction to neurosciences
- Introduction to Canvas, Library, academic writing
- Neurologic conditions: movement disorders and MND; subarachnoid haemorrhage; epilepsy; MS; hydrocephalus and CSF
- Neurosurgical conditions: spinal cord injury and conditions; head injuries/trauma
- Neuro-modulation and neuropathic pain
- Head injuries
- Brain and CNS tumours
- Ethical principles in neurology
- Mental health and brain injury
- Pharmacology
- Neuropsychology and cognition
- Patient/family story
These sessions will be supplemented by LJMU teaching sessions including introduction to the use of library services, assignment writing skills and introduction to Canvas online learning system.
Teaching and learning
This course will be delivered in the Education Centre at The Sid Watkins Building, students are expected to attend all taught sessions.

Alternative qualifications considered
You will need:
- BA/BSc (Hons) in relevant field (2.2 or above) or evidence of potential to study at masters level
- Registration as a health professional (nursing or allied health)
- Organisational support and support of line manager - this is confirmed by the employing organisation

Relevant work experience
In order to be considered for this course, you must have a minimum of 12 months experience and evidence of professional development.

Assessment
You will be assessed via an anatomy and physiology examination and case study.
