Course aim

To facilitate the development of empowerment and leadership skills in line with current expectations of key personnel in the health and social care services.

Course content

This course is currently undergoing its scheduled programme review, which may impact the advertised modules. Programme review is a standard part of the University’s approach to quality assurance and enhancement, enabling us to ensure that our courses remain up to date and maintain their high standard and relevancy.

You will study the following topics:

  • leadership competencies
  • effective team-working
  • management of change
  • developments in health policy
  • NHS politics and power
  • empowering others
  • recognising own personal leadership strengths

Teaching and learning

The module is intended to provide a comprehensive review of issues surrounding empowerment and clinical leadership. Students will be encouraged to analyse their own leadership behaviour and how this contributes to a learning environment. Students will also be encouraged to take responsibility for developing useful connections with those able to introduce change in the workplace.

There will be two intakes a year, September to December and January to April.

  • Relevant work experience

    In order to be considered for Leadership Development through Action Learning you should be currently employed as a health service professional.

How to apply

To apply for this programme, you are required to complete an LJMU CPD application form. You will need to provide details of your qualifications and curent employment.

Assessment

You will be expected to complete a 2,500 word essay.

CPD award

The final award is Continuing Professional Development for Oncology Pharmacy Practice in Secondary Care, 20 credits at Level 7.
