We can support students’ with pre-existing mental health conditions or new and emerging difficulties. We also work closely with Mental Health services at Merseycare (NHS).
The initial assessment lasts a maximum of 60 minutes. Any ongoing appointments last between 30 and 60 minutes, dependent on your needs.
We are registered professionals that adhere to a code of conduct and operate within University Policy including confidentiality and GDPR recommendations. There may be some exceptions to this when it comes to risk factors and other concerns. However, any concerns that may require contact with a third party would be discussed with you beforehand.
Our services operate from Monday-Friday between working hours 9am-5pm. You can access support throughout the whole year as we operate outside of term time.
However, we do not operate a crisis service, if you require support outside of our operational hours then please see crisis information listed on our page.
For students who might wish to further explore and clarify certain difficulties, we would suggest contacting the Student Wellbeing team in the first instance. Student Wellbeing Advisors can assist students in identifying the most appropriate course of action and are able to further refer to the mental health team where appropriate. The Student Wellbeing team can be contacted by either emailing studentwellbeing@ljmu.ac.uk or else telephoning 0151 231 3664.
Students with an identified mental health difficulty are able to self-refer by emailing the mental health team.
Within the university, academic staff are aware of how to contact the mental health team as required.
Externally, both GP’s and other statutory health services are also able to refer direct to the mental health team.
The mental health service at LJMU are unfortunately unable to offer support to individuals until they are fully registered as a student of the university. Therefore, we would encourage you to contact the service by emailing mentalhealth@ljmu.ac.uk once you are formally enrolled within the university once you have started your course in September.
We can then make arrangements to conduct an initial assessment and further explore what ongoing support you might benefit from.
If you are currently being supported by your local secondary care services, we would advise that they make a referral to our adult services following your registration with a Liverpool GP service as soon as possible. This will be easier to do once you have allocated your accommodation in Liverpool.
For queries please contact us on 0151 231 3579 or email the Mental Health team. We operate during the hours of Monday-Friday 9am-5pm.
