I am Dean of the Doctoral Academy at Liverpool John Moores University, responsible for directing the provision for doctoral research, which includes developing pathways and structures to support excellence in postgraduate research.
I am also Professor of Art History with interests in the history of exhibitions and the critical reception of works of art in the UK and USA in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. I have supervised PhDs on a number of topics, including exhibition cultures, modernism, patronage, curatorial research, art writing, and histories of art practice.
I serve on the Executive Committee of the UK Council for Graduate Education (UKCGE), and I Honorary Secretary since February 2021. I am also a co-investigator on the OfS/Research England-funded EDEPI project to widen participation in postgraduate research.
