In 2017 left her research job to pursue a full time PhD at LJMU, which she completed in 2020. Her doctoral research focused on the public health implications of geo-social networking applications (e.g. Tinder, Grindr) for lesbian, gay and bisexual people. The mixed methods study was linked with Southern Connecticut State University (USA). Her doctoral thesis was titled: “Do you want to get naked or do you want a cup of tea?” Smartphone geosocial networking apps and the health of lesbian, gay and bisexual users in the UK and USA.

After she finished her PhD she worked at Bangor University/Public Health Wales researching adverse childhood experiences and had a lecturing role in Social Science at Liverpool Hope University for two and a half years. She has also worked as an Independent Advocate with Looked After Children.

Hannah is interested in reducing health inequalities and improving health services, especially in relation to minority groups and sexual health. She has over 15years experience of local and international public health research. She has previously co-ordinated service evaluations, needs assessments and consultation exercises for many of the local authorities and NHS organisations in the North West. Her current research projects focus on the health of lesbian, gay and bisexual people and how we can improve research and routine monitoring data to be more inclusive of all sexual orientations and gender identities.

Hannah is a Trustee of Iron Guidance, a charity in the North East of England that delivers educational and wellbeing projects to children and young people, most of whom come from families who are struggling financially.
