I completed my Bachelor of Nursing degree, which included a specialist practice qualification in Health Visiting, in 2002. I started my career as an adult nurse in Accident and Emergency, dealing with a huge range of different clinical presentations. After 12 years of seeing the increasing pressures on emergency care, I decided to move into health promotion and illness prevention. I completed a return to practice Health Visiting course at LJMU in 2014 and started a job as a Health Visitor in Liverpool, with a focus on community public health, children and young people, early intervention, maternal mental health and safeguarding. In 2020 I became a Paediatric Liaison Specialist Nurse in Liverpool, acting as the link between the community children’s 0-19 teams and the acute hospital trusts. This role had a focus on safeguarding and leadership. In 2023 I started my academic career at LJMU as a Lecturer in Nursing. I am currently undertaking an MSc in Public Health, while teaching on the BSc Nursing and Nursing Associate foundation degree programmes.
