Nursing and Advanced Practice

Faculty of Health

After completing my Bachelor of Nursing (Hons) degree at the University of Liverpool, I focused my career around community/cancer care within the Merseyside.
I gained experience within oncology/surgery/medicine/acute care before taking a position as a SPQ, District Nurse team leader. During this time, I was also a community nurse practitioner as well as becoming the palliative care lead/Macmillan for the area.
After several years within this position, I took on the role of lead nurse for the first wave of walk-in-centres on The Wirral and contributed/collaborated to their development within the North-West
All of these successful ventures aided my move into education, firstly at the University of Liverpool (Pre-registration Lecturer and Programme Leader for District Nursing) then at the University of Chester (Programme Leader for the BSc/GDip/PGD/MSc Specialist Practice Community Programmes - District Nursing/Mental Health/Learning Disability/Community Children Nursing/General Practice Nursing as well as teaching/leading several pre-registration nursing modules) and now with Liverpool John Moores University. I am extremely proud having trained and then taught District Nursing in Liverpool, the birthplace of professionalised community care (https://qni.org.uk/explore-qni/history-of-the-qni/).
I am constantly in the process of research; at present reviewing covid and learning with higher education as well as a phenomenological study on males within the profession. I have completed my MPhil and am progressing towards doctoral research.
