Dr. Hiren Kotadia joined Liverpool John Moores University in September 2021 from the University of Warwick, UK, where he continues to hold an honorary visiting research position. Hiren was educated in India, where he obtained his first degree from M. S. University, Baroda, his MMet from the University of Sheffield, and his PhD from Brunel University London. He joined King’s College London (from 2009 to 2012) as a postdoctoral researcher and worked for Constellium (an aluminium manufacturer) (from 2012 to 2015) as a research scientist. In 2015, Hiren joined WMG, University of Warwick, where he was promoted to senior research fellow and became an associate professor.

Hiren's research investigates the intricate relationships between processing, microstructure, and properties in structural (steel and aluminium) and functional (microelectronic) materials. He specialises in solidification nucleation and growth, microstructural evolution and design, and phase transformations. His work encompasses alloy design for targeted mechanical, chemical (corrosion), and electrical properties, establishing quantitative links between microstructure and processing conditions (additive manufacturing, casting, welding, thermomechanical processing, and sintering). A key focus is understanding how these processing-microstructure-property relationships influence material performance. Furthermore, he is committed to advancing material sustainability through his research.
