Dr Tina Marolt-Cebasek is a Senior Lecturer at Department of Civil Engineering. She is a Link Tutor of collaborative programmes of BSc and MSc Civil Engineering at International College of Business and Technology in Sri Lanka. Dr Tina is an active researcher at Built Environment and Sustainable Technologies Research Institute with focusing on numerical modelling in geotechnics, tunnelling engineering, mining engineering and railway track geostructures and, laboratory testing of soils, rocks, and railway geo-structures.
She worked as Research Fellow at University of Leeds and as Research Associate at Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh where she worked on researches specific to full scale laboratory testing of ballasted and concrete slab track for high speed trains and numerical modelling of geosynthetic and preforms systems for railway track geo-structures. A research of testing a high speed rail had significant importance and was presented at BBC Scotland where Tina gave an interview in collaboration with her line manager.
She received her PhD degree in Materials Science and Engineering in the field of Mining Engineering and Geotechnology at the University of Ljubljana. Slovenia. Her PhD Thesis focuses on development of yielding elements for the optimisation of transformed primary stress state in tunnel excavation process. During her PhD study, she was a Visiting Researcher at the Geotechnical Institute at TU Bergakademie Freiberg, Germany where she investigated subcritical crack growth as time-dependent failure under constant monolithic load. She was a (Teaching) Assistant at University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Natural Sciences and Engineering, Slovenia with habilitation (professional qualification) at the Department of Geotechnology, Mining Engineering and Environment where she taught modules at BSc and MSc programmes. She has published several scientific papers, numerous conference papers, research reports, treatises, and preliminary studies and translated a book titled Tunnels: guidelines for good occupational health and safety practice in tunnel construction.
