Jeff graduated from the University of Liverpool, School of Electrical Engineering and Electronics, with a BEng(Hons) in Computer Electronics and Robotics. He then obtained a PhD at Liverpool in 2000 entitled ‘Optical Techniques for Industrial Automated Applications’. His post doctoral research career began at Liverpool working on industrial facing projects in the Automotive and Microwave fields. All of these projects had an underpinning theme of energy usage.
In 2005 he joined LJMU as a founding member of the RF and Microwave group under Prof. Ahmed Al-Shamma’a, which later became part of the newly formed BEST (Built Environment and Sustainable Technologies) Research Institute. Here he continued research related to energy in projects as varied as investigating the performance of fridges for the leisure industry through to microwave systems to provide a novel way of heating for both domestic and industrial uses.
Since joining BEST in 2010, Jeff has been involved with multiple projects regarding sensors, sustainability and monitoring and characterising new and novel products that are brought to the university through the industrial outreach programs in the faculty.
He also lectures at both undergraduate and postgraduate level within the building services and architectural engineering courses on subjects relating to his Electrical background such as Building Management Systems and Intelligent buildings. He has also previously delivered courses on Electronics, Programming and Software Engineering for the School of Engineering.
