Dr. Mia Smith is a Senior Lecturer in Education and joint Programme Leader for Education Studies and Inclusion (alongside Dr. Karen Broomhead). She is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, having completed the PG Cert in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education at Liverpool John Moores University in 2012.
Mia was awarded her PhD at Liverpool John Moores University in 2015. Her thesis focused on the impact of parental drug misuse on children, utilising a life story and voice relational methodological approach. Within a broader research sphere that is committed to research with children and listening to their voices, Mia’s thesis extends this commitment by providing an adult a platform to share her unique story and to reflect on her childhood experiences.
Prior to this, Mia completed her MA in Children and Young People in Society at Liverpool Hope University and a BA (Hons.) in Education Studies and Special Inclusive Needs at Liverpool John Moores University.
Mia predominately teaches on the BA (Hons.) Education Studies suite of degree programmes.
