First Roscoe Lecture of the Bicentenary year given to hundreds at St George's Hall

WATCH: Professor Andy Newsam and Ngunan Adamu on opening and hosting the first Roscoe Lecture of our Bicentenary year.

An audience of hundreds gave a rapturous response to the first Roscoe Lecture of LJMU's Bicentenary year.

Professor Andy Newsam delivered his address at St George's Hall in our first in-person Roscoe Lecture since before the pandemic.

The astrophysicist who is the LJMU Director of the National Schools’ Observatory, educated and inspired the audience with his lecture “A Universe for All.”

Sir Jon Murphy, who delivered his own Roscoe Lecture in 2016 welcomed back the audience “after quite some time” and introduced Professor Andy Newsham. The astrophysicist then began his lecture, as he explained: “This evening, I’m going to be talking, not just about space, but why understanding space is important to us all.”

Former alumni and now BBC Radio Merseyside presenter and producer, Ngunan Adamu also facilitated a Q&A with audience members and Andy, following the lecture, with complex questions including how does Astronomy cross connect with faith and religion and is there life on other planets asked to the astrophysicist.
