School of Biological and Environmental Sciences

Founded in 2019, the School of Biological and Environmental Sciences (BES) studies all forms of life on Earth. From the environmental impact to how human culture shapes where life exists over time.

Our mission is to help address the most pressing challenges facing the planet’s ecosystems. We aim to be part of the solution through strong, research-led teaching and learning. We prepare our students to think critically about global problems and to understand the links between science, society, and the environment.

By the time they graduate, our students are globally aware and equipped with valuable knowledge and skills. They leave with the confidence to tackle today’s major environmental and biological challenges.

I enjoy the hands-on learning and getting lots of experience with forensic work and bones. LJMU’s science facilities, libraries and places to work are excellent.
