Development Activity Guidance
Guide for Researcher Development
As outlined in the 2019 Revised Concordat, researchers should take charge of their careers, identifying ways to further their ambitions and develop their independence. This involves participating in at least 10 days' worth of professional development per year, or 70 hours (pro rata).
Career phases affect development needs (and the related activities). Therefore, with the PI's approval and advice, individuals are encouraged to select the activities that are most pertinent to their current position. However, it's vital to note that development activities are not required to take place in a university environment. Researchers are encouraged to consider a variety of professions outside of academia.
Below are examples of university resources that researchers can visit online and engage with to further their professional development in line with the Concordat. This is an evolving list, and will be supported as the university expands its academic staff support resources.
