Writing for Wellbeing Workshop

This workshop was offered as a ‘taster’ to the practice of ‘expressive writing for wellbeing’, based on principles from poetry/bibliotherapy. The focus of this approach is on the process of writing rather than the product; as such, it opens up an alternative portal into self-knowledge and understanding. Attendees benefitted from sharing general and personal reflections about this process of writing for the self. Here are some comments from previous workshop participants:
“I didn’t realise writing could be so thought-provoking and freeing”
“It feels good to unload on the page!”

Progress Towards De-Colonising the Curriculum at LJMU

This session introduced the ways in which LJMU is applying a decolonial lens to the curriculum. The session also addressed how a decolonial perspective is being embedded within LJMU’s collaborative programmes and the actions being taken to achieve this in LJMU’s validation and review process.

Introduction to Canvas

This session provided an introduction to Canvas and demonstrated the basics of identifying learning resources, building pages and organising content. The session covered the following areas:
- the fundamentals of using Canvas
- how to navigate the system and change account settings
- how to upload and share materials using Files, Modules and Pages
- the location of the Grades area
- how to use the Announcement tool to communicate effectively with students

Blended Learning - What Works

Blended learning and delivering teaching online have seen a significant increase since COVID-19. This session covered some of the good practice that has been observed from the perspective of the Teaching and Learning Academy and invited contributions and discussion from attendees in regard to their experience of this mode of academic delivery.

Developing the LJMU Student Experience

Tom and Victoria are the joint International Leads for Liverpool Business School, and this session provided a brief overview of their roles and areas of strategic focus. One particular aspect they are keen to develop is the LJMU experience of our students at partner institutions and this round-table discussion garnered feedback and insight from our partners on developing a stronger sense of belonging to LJMU amongst our students.

How to Deliver Engaging and Sustainable Online Learning

The Alef Trust is an online education provider and partner of LJMU, delivering programmes validated by LJMU. The organisation has a global student constituency, engaging mature learners from diverse professions in Master’s and PhD level study. Programmes are delivered entirely online; and in this session they shared how they engage students in blended learning processes, balancing rigorous academic study with experiential and applied learning. They placed particular emphasis on how they endeavour to make online learning sustainable for students, given that student wellbeing has been challenged worldwide by unprecedented crises, causing social, financial and psychological insecurities and distress.

Student Wellbeing and Success at Oryx Universal College (OUC)

One of the aims of Oryx Universal College is to become one of the best providers of tertiary education in Qatar, and also one of the best in the Middle East. An essential element that will contribute to this is the quality of education that they provide to their students. They are working hard to give their students the best possible student experience they can have. They believe that a good starting point is to take Student Wellbeing and Success seriously, and to kick this off they are taking personal tutoring to a level not seen in universities in the area, and to a level at par with what is done in UK universities at the minimum.

This session looked at electronic resources available to partner institutions, discussed why e-resource provision differs between partner institutions and showed how partner institutions can maximise open access resources. It also busted some myths around e-resource provision.

Course Information Project Update
